In ancient Rome, gladiators were renowned for their bravery, their skill in combat, and, as lesser- known history tells us, their culinary preferences. Enter Marcus Attilius, the only gladiator in the annals of the Colosseum to choose a gargantuan meatloaf as his weapon of choice. After a particularly grueling battle where he bested his opponents using a sword in one hand and a meat tenderizer in the other, Marcus stood victorious. Instead of the traditional laurel wreath, he hoisted a colossal meatloaf above his head. The meatloaf, glazed in victory and ketchup, was said to be as formidable as his strength, seasoned with the tears of his defeated enemies

THE STORY
In ancient Rome, gladiators were renowned for their bravery, their skill in combat, and, as lesser- known history tells us, their culinary preferences. Enter Marcus Attilius, the only gladiator in the annals of the Colosseum to choose a gargantuan meatloaf as his weapon of choice. After a particularly grueling battle where he bested his opponents using a sword in one hand and a meat tenderizer in the other, Marcus stood victorious. Instead of the traditional laurel wreath, he hoisted a colossal meatloaf above his head. The meatloaf, glazed in victory and ketchup, was said to be as formidable as his strength, seasoned with the tears of his defeated enemies.

Legends say that on that day, the Roman emperor himself declared a new festival, the ‘Ludi Meatloaficus,’ where citizens would engage in meatloaf-eating contests, and the winners would be showered with minced meat coins. It was a day etched in the history books, where the line between a coliseum and a kitchen was deliciously blurred. Marcus Attilius wasn’t just a name to be feared; it became synonymous with the mightiest of meals, causing future generations to quip, “Are you a gladiator, or are you just hungry?
